It is accepted to call the resume a brief, if I may say so, professional biography of a person. It is possible to do without him in the process of changing work only in isolated cases. For example, if you are invited to this or that position by people who already know you from their previous work together, the decision to take you has been made and future employment prospects are determined only by your consent. However, more often and in this situation, the one who invites you is authorized only to recommend, and a resume is still required to make further decisions on your candidacy.
Case of life. In a company where things were not going well, they invited a new CEO, whose main task was to rectify the situation. For this, he was given the broadest possible powers, including the formation of a new management team. However, each of the candidates recommended to them then passed approval with the founders of the company, who at the same time studied his resume. Even in cases when the representatives of the employer themselves come out for a candidate who may not look for a job, they often search for such potential employees according to resumes that are publicly available. In such cases, resumes are of particular importance for professions where it is not possible to show the goods by face. If, for example, the candidacy of a journalist may interest the employer only on the basis of his publications, and the designer a portfolio with finished works, then, for example, an engineer, marketer or accountant can draw attention to himself in a different way than through a resume.
If the candidate is looking for a job himself, he can make the initial application about himself only through a resume. And if a few years ago, the availability of a resume was meant primarily for candidates for vacancies for which higher education was required, now it is increasingly needed for candidates and for working professions. There are also cases when an employer does not want to see a formal resume of a candidate. Then this is directly stipulated in the job description, there is also an alternative proposed as a rule, in your own words, state in the body of the letter with the response to the vacancy what you can do and how you can be useful. But it is practiced infrequently.
The main task of the resume from the point of view of the applicant for the vacancy is to convince the employer of the expediency of further interaction with this candidate. In turn, an employer, at the stage of reading a resume, needs to understand who exactly of the candidates who responded to the ad should spend working time at further stages of selection. Often, the employer seeks to simultaneously close several vacant positions in different departments, and the responses to each such vacancy pass through the same service staff, whose staff may be limited. Therefore, if you want your resume not to get lost in the general stream, do not forget to designate the specific vacancy for which you are applying, both in the subject of the letter with the response, and in the text of the summary, where the section “Objective” is provided for this. It is customary to write in it: “Getting a position of such and such”. You can also specify the name of the company, but be careful. When sending summaries to different companies, there is a great risk that another document with such text will get to the wrong address, and this is almost a 100% guarantee of sending it to the recycle bin.
